The Windsor-Essex Triennial of Contemporary Art is the AGW’s signature group-artist exhibition focusing on contemporary art practice in southwestern Ontario, Windsor-Essex, and Detroit.

Curated by Ray Cronin and Lucas Cabral, the 2021 Windsor-Essex Triennial of Contemporary Art focuses on the theme of conversations. Interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic, we at the AGW were forced to rethink and reconsider how we can continue having critical conversations that matter to our community. Despite this uncertainty, however, art practices continued, getting richer and more varied as artists adapted to keep critical conversation active in an unprecedented time. As such, the Windsor-Essex Triennial of Contemporary Art set out, as a starting point, to see what artists in Windsor-Essex — and beyond — were in conversation about, and why.
